The National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum was established on April 10, 1900, playing an institutional part in the collection, preservation, maintenance, study and exhibition of works of art, for the public’s aesthetic culture, lifelong learning and self-knowledge of Greeks. Its collections include over 20,000 works of painting, sculpture, engraving and other forms of art and it is the treasury of modern Greek artistic creation, with a noteworthy collection of western European paintings.
